  • TED is a US based not-for-profit enterprise devoted to the propogation of Ideas Worth Spreading. TED started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment & Design.

In the spirit of Ideas Worth Spreading TED has created a program called TEDx, a series of local self-organised events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

TEDxSydney at CarriageWorks on Saturday 22 May 2010 will feature a selection of Australia's leading visionaries and storytellers showcasing their Ideas Worth Spreading LIVE to a group of thinkers ... as well as ONLINE to the world at large. At this invitation-only event, a curated group of changemakers, innovators, thinkers, creatives, cultural leaders & social pioneers will witness a back-to-back schedule of talks, performances and other multimedia surprises showcasing “Ideas Worth Spreading” from a carefully selected coterie of presenters whom the event organisers (and their networks) feel have something valuable to contribute.

Attendance at TEDxSydney will be free but by invitation only. Only a relatively small number of people can participate as members of the Bay 17 audience. To be included within this select group of 500 you will need to be nominated for inclusion by a member of the TEDxSydney Think Tank. Alternatively, you will be able to apply online via www.tedxsydney.com. Alternatively, you can apply to be a Member of the Live Bay 17 Audience by going to their website. www.tedxsydney.com. Applications opened yesterday!

TED is a US based not-for-profit enterprise devoted to the propogation of Ideas Worth Spreading. TED started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment & Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with the annual TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Program, the new TEDx community program, this year’s TEDIndia Conference and the annual TED Prize.

The annual conferences in Long Beach and Oxford bring together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives … in exactly 18 minutes. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa,” “a four-day journey into the future, in the company of those creating it” or even “Davos for optimists.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.

On TED.com, the best talks and performances from TED and its various partner events are made available to the world … for free. More than 450 TEDTalks are now available, with more added each week. Every day hundreds of thousands of people from all over the world feast on TED and this cornucopia of ideas. All of the talks feature closed captions in English, and many feature subtitles in various languages. These videos are released under a Creative Commons License, so they can be freely shared and reposted.
